“The Art of Deception in the Information Age” was Discussed with the Participation of Our Department Professors
At the Wednesday Meetings, where our university's academics came together around a specific topic, the subject of "The Art of Deception in the Information Age" was discussed along with the effects of disinformation.

The fourth of the "Wednesday Meetings" seminars was held on February 14, 2024, on "The Art of Deception in the Information Age". Assoc. Prof. from the Faculty of Communication. Dr. Mehmet Karanfiloğlu's speaker and Dr. At the event, where Kübra Kulaklıkaya took part as the moderator, how today's developing technology combines with people's tendency to deceive and the consequences of this were discussed.

In the event, the concept and types of disinformation were examined. Assoc. Dr. Karanfiloğlu;  explained that disinformation, which refers to deliberately giving false information, has two subtypes: misinformation and malinformation.

The speech also discussed seven types of information distortion frequently encountered in the media. It was mentioned that methods such as parody, imitation, distortion, fabrication, manipulation, decontextualization, and incorrect attribution play an important role in the spread of information pollution.

Assoc. Dr. Karanfiloğlu; in his speech, he stated that artificial intelligence can also be used for deception and drew attention to this situation by playing the version of Zeki Müren's song "Firuze" performed by artificial intelligence. Thus, he emphasized to the participants that developing technology can make deception attempts more skillful and therefore the importance of awareness.

The speech underlined that individual awareness and media literacy should be improved to prevent deception in the information age. It was emphasized that accurate information should not be shared without verification and that it is important always to think critically.
