Assist. Prof. Hasan Ramazan Yılmaz Discusses Turkish Cinema at the University of Bristol
Assist. Prof. Hasan Ramazan Yılmaz participated as a guest speaker in two events at the University of Bristol, where he addressed the themes of spiritual realism, social realism, and collective memory in cinema.

Our faculty member Assist. Prof. Hasan Ramazan Yılmaz from the Department of New Media and Communication participated as a guest speaker in two events on Turkish Cinema at the University of Bristol, one of the top 100 universities in the world and one of the top 10 prestigious universities in the UK.

The first of these programs, organized under The Bristol Doctoral College, occurred on Thursday, April 10th. In his talk, Yılmaz thoroughly examined the cinema of Semih Kaplanoğlu and shared the distinguishing features of contemporary Turkish cinema with the participants. He discussed the differences between spiritual realism and social realism in cinema and answered questions from the audience.

On Friday, April 11th, Yılmaz was invited to a program organized by the Memory Research Group, where he spoke about how Turkish cinema has been reflected in major European film festivals such as Berlin and Cannes. During this session, the participants discussed how the collective memory portrayed in Turkish cinema was selectively represented in prominent European cinema platforms. The program was met with great interest from doctoral researchers.
