Prof. İsmail Arda Odabaşı is a distinguished scholar known for his work in Turkish cinema history, press history, and political communication. He completed his undergraduate studies at Gazi University in 1996 and received his master’s and doctoral degrees from Marmara University.
Throughout his academic career, Prof. Odabaşı has served at Üsküdar University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and Ibn Haldun University. Since 2021, he has been continuing his academic work as a professor within the Faculty of Communication at Ibn Haldun University. As of 2025, he serves as the Acting Dean of the Faculty.
Prof. Odabaşı is the author of several widely cited and field-defining books. His works, including Ottoman Print Capitalism and Nationalism, National Cinema: Cinema Life in the Ottoman Empire and the Transition to Domestic Production, and Populism, Peasantism, and Socialism in the Press of the Second Constitutional Era, shed light on Turkey’s communication and cultural history. In addition to numerous articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, he continues to contribute to the field through interdisciplinary research exploring the relationship between cinema, philosophy, history, and literature.
