The Erasmus+ KA152 youth mobility project “Compass: The Common Direction of Humanity”, coordinated by Research Assistant Kaan Şentürk from the School of Communication at Ibn Haldun University, is being carried out in two phases in Istanbul and Jerusalem during August and September 2025. The project aims to address intercultural dialogue, peacebuilding, and practices of coexistence from a historical perspective. Through seminars, workshops, and field visits organized in both cities, participants explore the experiences of the three Abrahamic religions living together during the Ottoman period. The program, which begins in Istanbul, continues with activities in Jerusalem, offering participants the opportunity to comparatively evaluate the historical heritage of the two cities.
The project, coordinated by Research Assistant Kaan Şentürk and prepared by Ömer Faruk Yıldırım, a Master’s student in Alliance of Civilizations, is supervised by Dr. Meryem Solmaz, Vice Dean of the School of Law. Mahmut Sami Şenyiğit and Bahadır Bahacan Kibar, both second-year students at the School of Law, are also among the project’s coordinators. In addition, expert academics from Al-Quds University are contributing to the Jerusalem phase of the project.
The main objective of the project is to raise awareness among young people about the concepts of justice, international law, tolerance, peace, and cultural diplomacy. In this regard, it aims to establish a strong platform for communication based on shared values between participating students and institutions from Ibn Haldun University and Al-Quds University. In this way, the project reflects Ibn Haldun University’s civilizational perspective and stands out as a model initiative that reinforces its vision of peace on an international level.
